What Campers Will Do Each Day
Day 1: Drone Technology & Flight Safety (Dronology)
Students begin their journey by exploring the science and technology behind drones.
Activities include:
- Understanding drone components and flight systems
- Exploring real-world drone applications and careers
- Learning FAA-style drone safety procedures
- Practicing professional pre-flight inspections
- First guided flight training session
Students learn how real drone pilots prepare for missions and operate safely.
Day 2: Drone Flight Skills & Engineering (Dronology)
Campers develop piloting skills while learning the science of flight.
Activities include:
- Understanding lift, thrust, drag, and stability
- Flight control practice (hovering, turning, precision landing)
- Navigating obstacle courses and flight gates
- Engineering challenges that test flight control
- Team-based flight missions
Students begin thinking like drone pilots and aerospace engineers.
Day 3: Coding Drones with Block Programming (AeroCode)
Campers transition from flying drones manually to programming drones using block-based coding.
Activities include:
- Introduction to computational thinking and coding logic
- Programming drones to take off, move, hover, and land
- Creating automated flight paths
- Using loops and sequencing to control drones
- First autonomous drone flight challenge
Students discover how software controls real flying robots.
Day 4: Python Drone Programming (AeroPython)
Campers level up from block coding to real Python programming used in robotics and automation systems.
Activities include:
- Writing their first Python drone program
- Connecting Python code to a physical drone
- Using variables and commands to control drone movement
- Testing and debugging drone flight scripts
Students begin thinking like robotics programmers, where every line of code must be precise for the drone to operate correctly.
Day 5: Autonomous Drone Mission Challenge
Students combine everything they learned to complete the Drone Innovators Mission Challenge.
Activities include:
- Designing a drone mission using coding and flight planning
- Programming autonomous drone behaviors
- Testing and debugging their mission programs
- Team-based mission competitions
- Final showcase and graduation ceremony
Students demonstrate their autonomous drone missions to instructors, classmates, and guests.
